1. : African nations make a stand at UN climate talks in run-up to Copenhagen | guardian.co.uk

Go Africa! Living in the tropics with minimal water management infrastructure and mostly from subsistence and cash crop farmings, many of the poor nations, especially in Africa, have the most to lose as the climate changes.  Good to see them finally standing up to the rich nations and forcing them to do not screw over Africa, yet again.

  2. : “Do I have the right to refuse this search?” | Homeland Security Watch

This is an excellent essay by a former Police Chief on the dangers of current TSA policy. It is good to hear an analysis like this from someone with an actual background in law enforcement. Plenty of us are annoyed and disturbed by the TSA and it is good to be validated like this.

  3. : I'm dreading Halloween

Dear reader Marc sent in this lovely Halloween poster that his daughter made. It won second place in a competition in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. The first thing I said when Katie brought this to…

  4. : Apple’s New Anti-Windows 7 Ads Hurt My Brain

It’s no surprise that Apple has launched a new series of ads to compete with the launch of Windows 7, but the one above in particular really makes me want to smash my head into my desk. It…

  6. : Villa in the Woods by Zecc Architects » CONTEMPORIST

This is an example of what I was referring to in my last post.  The building is nearly perfect.  The materials are gorgeous, the setting is perfect, the balance and interaction with the surrounding environment works great.  But why does it have to be so square?

  7. : The Centrifugal Villa by OBRA Architects » CONTEMPORIST

Now this is what I call a beautiful building.  Instead of going for the ‘box’ look, this house actually flows and has shape as a cohesive whole.  I do not deny that the right sizes and shapes of rectangles can be elegant, but I’d far rather live in a building that isn’t quite so predictable.

  8. : Nanda's Alarm Clock Not Only Runs Away From You, It Runs Away From eBay Too

It looks like more tangible product companies are trying to pretend they can restrict what you do with legally purchased products post-sale (perhaps they’re jealous of content companies). Case in…

  9. : Do Verizon’s “iDon’t” Ads Miss the Point?

    moto droid

I always find it odd that while many seem to have no issue with Apple coming up with new and creative ways to market their products, for some reason it’s an issue when other companies try to…

  10. : 10/GUI interface looks to redefine the touch-enabled desktop

Redefining the way we interact with computers is a pretty ambitious task as far as things go, but that’s just what R. Clayton Miller is looking to do with his so-called 10/GUI project,…
